Maintenance of Carriages and Wagons is one of the most important maintenance activities carried out by the Railway Workshops.

The C&W Lab is equipped with following trainers-

Mechatronics Lab  

Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary branch which deals with Mechanical Equipment along with automation & controls.   Modern Railway systems use equipment which is a combination of Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Automation & Control Engineering. The training equipment is supplied with multimedia e-Learning Software to form a complete Blended Learning System.  The Mechatronics Laboratory consists of following trainers to fulfill this requirement of Pneumatic-Hydraulic Circuit Trainer.

Welding Training Centre

Welding is one of the most frequently used processes in Railways both in production as well as in maintenance.   The Lab is equipped with the state of the art welding sets and trainees can have hands on experience on various welding methods viz.

1.            Manual Metal Arc Welding

2.            Resistance Welding

3.            CO2 Welding

4.            TIG Welding

The Multimedia e-Learning Software on the specific welding operation, welding defects- causes and remedy, welding inspection etc. is supplied along with equipment. The wall charts on welding symbols and illustrated processes complete the learning in welding.

The lab is fully equipped with a set of 13 illustrative posters on various welding methodologies / processes, symbols, electrode selection / identification, welding defects and causes of the same.

Metrology Centre

Metrology laboratory consists of various measuring instruments Viz. Sine Bar, Limit Plug Gauge etc.  The training equipments are supplied with the multimedia e-Learning Software to form a complete Blended Learning System.

e-Learning Software for understanding the quality aspects of material such as Rexene, Rubber etc. and testing of the same is provided.   The software is in English & Hindi and provides explicit details of the concerned standards used for accepting the material.

Refrigeration Air-Conditioning Lab

Railways use both Air Conditioning & Refrigeration for passenger comfort & food preservation. The Railway Engineers and Technicians who are responsible for maintaining the coaches & wagons need to be trained in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration. The training equipment is supplied with the Multimedia e-Learning Software to form a complete Blended Learning System.

The Material science lab

This Lab is equipped with material testing equipment such as Rockwell and Brinell Hardness Testers, Digital Tensile Testing Machine, Durometer, thickness meters, Metallurgical Microscope, Wet Polishing Machine, Abrasive Wheel Cutting Machine, Ultrasonic Flaw Detector, Magnaflux Testing Machine Strohlein Apparatus, along with chemicals and glassware required for material testing

Electrical Engineering Lab

The Electrical Lab includes an orientation programme that covers training in D.C. Motors / Generator – shunt, series, and compound, AC Machines and Alternators.  The trainer enables us to differentiate between all these electrical machines, assemble them, and thereafter study the characteristics using the provided measuring instrumentation.

The equipment is supported by Multimedia Software in Hindi and English covering shunt, series and compound wound motors, induction motors, synchronous motors and generators.

The learning content provided also includes railway specific material on Traction Motors, Traction Motor Control, tap changers and thyristor control, Buck and Boost Starting, Operation of Loco Multiple Control Unit, Braking, Train Lighting, Electrical Controls of Diesel Locos and maintenance of Electric Loco and EMU batteries.
